About Hobie Beach Port Elizabeth
Hobie Beach in Summerstrand next to Shark Rock Pier is an extremely popular beach for swimmers, sunbathers, body surfers, canoeists, sailboarders and the like due to its launching facility for boats etc.
For the same reasons it is also the venue for many events such as the annual Splash Festival, beach volleyball, kayaking events, the world boardsailing championships as well as the swimming element of the classic Ironman event.
Hobie Beach also offers sheltered rock pools with interesting inter-tidal sealife. There are also plenty of nearby places to eat.
Shark Rock Pier is Port Elizabeth's only pier and is itself a prime attraction. It is, in fact, the pier which caused the build up of sand which created Hobie Beach in the first place.
